Overview

The Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd (KSEBL) is responsible for managing numerous critical dams whose structural integrity and water levels require precise, continuous monitoring. Prior to our intervention, the process of collecting, recording, and storing essential hydrological data, such as water inflow, outflow, reservoir levels, and rainfall was entirely manual and paper-based. This outdated method presented significant risks, including delayed information transfer, high potential for data entry errors, and the complete inability to achieve real-time insights for critical decision-making.

Netroxe was tasked with designing and implementing a modern, robust, and centralized Hydrological Information System (HIS) to revolutionize this process. Our solution focused on replacing paper logs with a dual-platform digital system: a mobile application for field data collection and a web-based platform for administrative functions and reporting.

The Solution and Key Features

We developed a comprehensive solution built on a modern technology stack, tailored specifically to KSEB's operational needs. The system's core features include:

  • Mobile Data Collection App: A dedicated mobile application enabling field officials to input hydrological readings directly from dam sites, ensuring accuracy at the point of collection

  • Centralized Database: A single, secure repository for all dam-related hydrological data accessible across platforms

  • Daily Data Entry Module: Intuitive, role-based forms on the mobile app allowing authorized field officials to record daily readings in real-time

  • Web-Based Administrative Portal: A comprehensive platform for KSEB administrators to manage data, monitor system-wide metrics, and generate reports

  • Real-Time Dashboard: A dynamic visual interface on the web platform providing officials with instantaneous status monitoring of key metrics across all dams

  • Advanced Reporting: Automated generation of essential regulatory reports through the web portal, drastically reducing compliance time

Impact and Transformation

The successful deployment of the HIS has led to a major operational shift at KSEB. Field data collection is now digitized through the mobile app, enabling accurate data capture at the source while eliminating paper-based inconsistencies. KSEB administrators can access verified, real-time data through the web platform to make proactive decisions regarding water release, power generation, and dam maintenance. This integrated mobile-web solution not only enhances operational efficiency but also significantly bolsters public safety through superior, data-driven dam management. This project exemplifies how combining mobile and web technologies can transform critical infrastructure management.
